About

I am an autobiographical artist working out of Ft. Worth, Texas. I received my BFA from the University of Wyoming in 2012 and my MFA from the University of Dallas in 2018. I’ll do anything but paint, but my preferred process is reduction relief. This allows me to build with layers of transparent color to achieve the graphic quality of the finished image. When I print multiples, it allows me to experiment with additional processes and materials to create a series of images using the same components. My approach to cyanotype is similar, in the creation of a drawn matrix with which to create multiples and add layers. Most of my work is figurative, as I consider the body a vehicle that contains and protects me during my existence on Earth. This is exhibited in the autobiographical narrative of my work, for I believe the only person’s story I have the right to illustrate is my own. I strive to reach deep and be genuine in expressing my life experiences in a way that encourages my viewers to reflect upon their own life or inspires them to do something new. I have returned to a writing practice- a mix of prose, poetry, and stream of consciousness. Currently inspired by Henri de Toulouse-Lautrec’s posters, yet conceptually motivated by Carolee Schneeman and other bold feminist artists, I integrate selections from my writings with figurative imagery. Audio recordings accompany this body of work. With the German Expressionist artists in mind, I take the text and the figure to experiment with new ways of presenting “emotion made visible” while slowly incorporating the use of props or symbols. Often taking from mythology and other archetypes, I develop different personas which I document for figure reference. I am giving myself permission to embrace the various sensations and to be vulnerable with the intensity of existing as a female.
