GRAPHIC DESIGNER/MARKETING ASSISTANT COMPANY DESCRIPTION For 27 years, the International Festival of Arts & Ideas (“Arts & Ideas”) has inspired and delighted audiences with an annual program of over 200 performing arts and humanities events year-round, at least 80% of which are free. Focused events in June range from world and nationally-renowned speakers sharing the stage with critical local voices for discussions on democracy, to jazz concerts, theatrical performances, dance; takeout mixology classes; bike and walking tours; and live, individual performances by local on-call artists on front lawns and sidewalks throughout the area. Year-round programs include special town-hall events, a fellowship program for youth, planning and implementing mini-festivals in New Haven’s culturally-rich neighborhoods, participation in the NEA Big Read, and our annual Visionary Leadership Award program. JOB DESCRIPTION The role of the Graphic Designer/Marketing Assistant is to bring creative thinking and visually compelling designs across any format in this dynamic job, while gaining hands-on experience in the implementation of a marketing plan for one of the region’s most significant cultural events. The ideal candidate is adept in multiple facets of the creative process, enjoys collaborating, is eager to learn and expand on skills, and has a strong passion for design. We are looking for a creative individual who has the ability to work under close direction, as well as independently. Working under the supervision of the Creative Manager, the Assistant will focus on graphic design, production of marketing materials, in-house production of advertisements, print collateral, digital elements for web and email, and signage. Additionally, the Assistant will help with general marketing department organizational and administrative tasks. Essential Duties and Responsibilities Various projects include, but are not limited to: Support the Creative Manager in all areas of graphic design from conception and project execution to completion Produce advertising materials, collateral (posters, handouts, flyers, etc), signage (banners, kiosks, etc.—large and small scale), and other print materials Create web events and graphics, social events and graphics, eblasts, and other digital materials • Use effective time management and organizational skills to maintain workflows and meet quick turn-around deadlines in a fast-paced environment Take meeting notes, pick-up print orders, and distribute marketing materials to partners • Work on multiple projects simultaneously while ensuring accurate execution against creative briefs • Present work and collaborate across internal and external departments Other duties as assigned by Creative Manager Qualifications: • 2+ years of experience in graphic design or other creative team environment • Proficient in Adobe Creative Suite software: inDesign (high priority), Illustrator, Photoshop, etc. • Strong layout and typography skills • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to articulate creative concepts to teams/clients • Attention to detail and managing multiple projects simultaneously under tight time constraints • Desire to learn and grow, be self-motivated, and have a positive attitude • Organized and accountable • Ability to work independently, under close direction and collaboratively with other internal/external departments CLASSIFICATION: Job Type: Part-Time Temporary December 4, 2023 – June 13, 2024 Pay: $20.00 per hour Schedule: Tuesday–Thursday, 12PM–4PM (In-Person) Subject to change as needed Location: 195 Church Street 12th FL New Haven, CT 06510 ADDITIONAL INFORMATION: A note that Arts & Ideas programs in a seasonal fashion.
