The Hixon Center for Urban Sustainability, in collaboration with the Yale School of Art, invites proposals for mural exhibitions in the community art space at 63 Audubon Street, on view from August 28 to September 21. In addition to exhibiting their work publicly during this month, selected artists will share their murals at a reception for the Hixon Center’s Practitioner Workshop on Public Art as a Catalyst for Urban Climate Action, taking place on September 19. This interdisciplinary gathering will bring together artists, urban planners, environmental professionals, and community members to explore how public murals can: Foster climate awareness and a deeper connection to nature Promote safer, more inclusive public spaces Inspire actionable climate solutions The workshop will begin with presentations at the Yale School of the Environment, followed by a mural art tour through downtown New Haven. Renderings such as photos of artists’ murals will be on display during the closing reception at 63 Audubon Street. All are welcome! Artists are encouraged to submit examples of their mural artwork that engages with the themes of cities and nature. To apply, please submit: A visual representation of your work (e.g., concept art, sketches, or before/after photos), which may be provided by you or submitted in digital format to be printed. Please note that if you would like us to print your image(s), the print size will be limited by available resources, and the work will not be framed. A brief description (up to 200 words) explaining the work and its relevance to the theme, which will be displayed with the visual representation. Email submissions to hixoncenter@yale.edu by Friday, August 8 at 5:00 PM. 6 to 8 artists will be selected for their work to be on exhibit at 63 Audubon Street and notified by August 13.
