About

Jack Hein, a second year MFA Ceramics student, merges traditional and modern techniques to explore the intersection of history and technology. His sculptures, inspired by Burmese architecture and traditional motifs, reflect his migration and identity. Born in Myanmar, Jack grew up surrounded by pottery and ceramics, sparking a lifelong passion for the craft. Through years of practice and experimentation, he refined his skills, pushing the boundaries of ceramic art. Jack’s work explores the delicate interplay between translucency and light, using porcelain to create sculptures that challenge the material’s limits. His research focuses on expanding the possibilities of clay, experimenting with its structural and aesthetic potential. Incorporating techniques such as glazing, painting, and carving, he crafts intricate forms that are both visually compelling and conceptually driven. His work has been showcased in various exhibitions, including a student exhibition in Japan, the 3D Tour Online Exhibition, and 150 Years/150 Artists at Contemporary Gallery in Fort Worth.
