Description
Stray Dog Theatre (SDT) is committed to unleashing the art of theatre and community service on Saint Louis and the surrounding community. Recognizing theatre, at its highest level, has the capacity to touch and move the human spirit, SDT aims to create productions and programs that challenge, educate, entertain, and inspire audiences, artists, and communities alike. Reflecting the human experience by bringing social awareness to universal issues is paramount. Toward these ends, SDT vows to honor diversity and embrace inclusiveness, all the while showcasing local talent, making theatre more accessible, and serving as a creative shelter for artistic freedom, education, and expression. In addition to presenting six main stage productions a year, Stray Dog Theatre operates several educational, artistic, and outreach programs to further our mission of unleashing the art of theatre and community service on Saint Louis and the surrounding community. Stray Pups Youth Theatre fulfills SDT’s mission by creating a community of confident, engaged, and enthusiastic students. The program will allow these students to channel their creativity into rewarding performances that build skills students will draw upon for life, in new ways and opportunities not usually given to them. The programs combine SDT’s two main focuses: artistic expression and outreach. With three distinct programs, Stray Pups offers opportunities for students of all ages and talent levels. Silver Stage hopes to provide the experience of theater to senior citizens, regardless of ability, age, experience, or background, and create a network of mature performers who can become an active and vibrant part of our theater community for years to come. New Works Laboratory offers an opportunity for new play development where the audience, performers, and writer all take part in the play development process. The writer creates the script, the actors translate the page to the stage, and audience members exchange immediate and uncensored reaction to the play, providing all with insight into further development of the product. Playwrights with a unique vision, innovative subject matter, and diverse perspectives are thus given a voice which otherwise might never be afforded to them in the contemporary world of performing arts.
