Description
Mission Vues de Culture is a Louisiana-based nonprofit media organization committed to documenting, preserving, and amplifying stories of underrepresented communities—particularly Creoles of Color—through film, photography, and cultural programming. Our mission is to honor cultural truth, challenge misrepresentation, and build authentic platforms for storytelling rooted in lived experience. Vision We envision a world where the stories of Black and Indigenous communities, Creoles of Color, and other historically overlooked cultures are told with care, accuracy, and power. Through original documentaries, public events, and visual media, Vues de Culture aims to deepen cultural understanding, foster intergenerational dialogue, and expand representation across creative industries. As the home of both the REFRAMING Cinema Film Festival and the Annual Creole Culture Day, we are creating space for stories that reflect our communities in full color and full truth. Values Cultural Truth: We believe in telling stories as they are lived—not as they are commodified or appropriated. Community Accountability: Our work is guided by the voices of the people and places we represent. Creative Integrity: From the field to the final cut, we uphold the highest standards in storytelling, artistic direction, and historical accuracy. Legacy Building: We document not for nostalgia, but to preserve what matters—for now and for the future. Access & Visibility: We center underrepresented creators, amplify regional voices, and open doors for emerging filmmakers and artists of color. Our current projects include Built on Zydeco (a music-centered documentary premiering in May 2025), Parish Okra (a meditation on seasonal folk life), and an untitled Boucherie film capturing the fading tradition of communal butchering in rural Louisiana. Together with our public-facing events—REFRAMING Cinema Film Festival and Creole Culture Day—we are creating new lanes for cultural media to thrive from within our own communities.
